The road from the mountains. Winter sun. And so much history.
This was meant to be just a short, two-day trip, but Bosnia turned out to be a place to fall in love with. With its mountains and winter sun. With the fact that no visa was needed. And, after living in Serbia, with its food as well.
In Sarajevo, history is present in every step. The beginning of the First World War. The Winter Olympics. The Bosnian War. While we were there, we watched several documentaries about the city's history, which made the experience feel even more layered and immersive.
The most difficult chapter is also the most recent. It happened only thirty years ago. Many people who visit Sarajevo from Serbia on organized tours say the experience can be emotionally difficult, as some guides do not hold back in describing the events or assigning blame. But we didn't experience that ourselves.

Still, one thing is undeniable: Bosnia's memorials are remarkably photogenic.
And yes, we'll definitely be back. I know this because I'm writing these words a year later, and since that first journey we've already returned to Bosnia twice.
